How to access the register?

What type of information can you get?

Since its introduction by the Ordonnance n°2016-1635, of December 1, 2020, the register of ultimate beneficial owners of legal entities whose registered office is located in France has not been left out of the news. Indeed, it was a represented a revolution in terms of transparency in business life.

The register of Ultimate Beneficial Owners contains a wide range of information on these owners, including the identification of the natural person and percentage of ownership within the entity concerned

Eventually, more than a year later, on April 16, 2021, the French Tax Authority announced free online access to the register via the INPI website or Infogreffe. However, a distinction remains.

How to actually access the data?

Public information on UBOs is available, free of charge, on the DATA.INPI.FR portal as well as the Infogreffe website. Simply access the company’s file (search by name or SIREN number of the company) to have access to the data of its beneficial owners. The INPI specifies that the data is updated daily in order to reduce the risks of identity theft and fraud.

What data is publicly available?

For each UBO, are available:

  • Name, surname, first name and pseudonym,
  • Date of birth,
  • Country of residence,
  • Nationality,
  • Nature and extent of the effective interest held in the company or entity in question.

As a reminder, UBOs are declared at the time of incorporation of the company and must be updated at the time of each operation having an effect on the ownership of the share capital.
